For most Jewish children in Belarus, Rosh Hashanah has never been part of the year. No shofar. No apples and honey. No table set for Yom Tov. Many of the students now at Beis Aharon arrived without ever having heard the words.

This year, that changes. In Yad Yisroel’s schools and communities, children will hear the shofar, sit at a Yom Tov seudah, and learn what it means to begin a new year as a Jew. For many, it is the first time.
